On Thursday, Harsh Vardhan, the health Minister stressed on the importance of nutrition security to live upto the goals of the Eat Right India Movement and requested other ministries to think of similar goals and strategize their actions.

In a Statement, the Health Ministry said that the economic cost of food-borne diseases in India is around $15 billion.

‘Vision 2050’ of the Eat Right India Movement is being planned and thought over by Vardhan, senior officials, and the other ministries.

Harsh Vardhan said that ministries like Women and Child Development Ministry, the Agriculture Ministry and the Ministries of Food, Fisheries, can come up with something significant only if they decide about primary production, food processing, ideas on handling wastage, issue ofhygiene and end-consumption.

He believed that a systematic approach can ensure food safety and security for promoting a healthy diet and taking care of the environment through sustainable practices.
