Railways cancelled regular train tickets till the end of June but the special and shramik trains will continue.
The Railways is cancelling the regular bookings including mail, express and suburban services. Officially, Railways gave this update on Thursday morning. Tickets which were cancelled were booked when Railways opened the reservations for journey in June.
The update from the Railway Department clearly said that the train services are only open for migrant workers. The special trains are running only for the shramki- which started early this week between Delhi and 15 stations. It is an effort to send the migrant workers to their desired destination. After a period of time, the normal services will be started as scheduled.
Last month when the train tickets were cancelled, the Railways provided the refund of Rs 1490 crore. Around 94 lakh of train tickets were cancelled after the lockdown declaration.
Since March 22, all the regular trains have been suspended due to coronavirus lockdown. As there was extension of lockdown from May 17, the train regular train booking are paused to run.
The Railways scheduled and started 642 “Shramik” special trains in order to send the migrant workers to their home states. Around 7.9 lakh migrant workers have travelled in these special trains.
