Increase in Deaths due to Cold in India and Bangladesh

The western and Northern India experience the second coldest weather in 119 years and has lead to dense fog. At six people were killed where as many parts of the country were disrupted which includes the capital New Delhi.

Six people were killed in a car accident in Uttar Pradesh as their car has skidded off the road and plunged into a canal. The police said that the heavy fog has to be blamed.

A report by local media says that sixteen flights were diverted, four were canceled and around 500 flights were delayed in Delhi.

IndiGo tweeted saying, “Due to dense fog and poor visibility in the northern region, our flights are impacted.” several flights have been canceled by various airlines which included Indian airline Vista canceling six flights, SpiceJet Ltd, AirAsia.

Many homeless people were moved to temporary shelters by the city government of Delhi as the minimum temperature that has been recorded in Delhi was 2.4 Degrees Celsius on Saturday which is recorded to be the lowest since 2013.

Experts say that the reason behind winters being colder in the western and northern India is due to climate change and urbanization.

Freezing winters continued in Bangladesh and around 50 deaths due to cold and the lowest temperature has been recorded as 4.5 Degrees Celsius.
