Indian citizenship has been granted to a Pakistani woman in Jammu and Kashmir as she was married to an Indian man. A Pakistani woman who is married to an Indian man in Poonch, a district located in the Jammu and Kashmir’s border and has been granted Indian citizenship on Monday, said officials.
Rahul Yadav, the District Development Commissioner of poonch handed over the certificate of registration which grants Indian citizenship to Khatija Praveen, wife of Mohammad Taj at the DC office chamber on Monday, said the reports.
The Indian citizenship was granted to Khatija Praveen, who was born in Pakistan, on the basis of marriage to an Indian which comes under the section 5(1)( C ) of the Citizenship Act, 1955.
The officials said that Khatija Praveen and her husband expressed great joy and gratitude on receiving the certificated of registration as Indian citizen from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
This is amidst the protests being done around the country regarding the Citizenship Amendment act and the National Register of Citizens which grants Indian citizenship to the non-Muslim communities i.e., Hindus, Sikhs, Buddists, Parsis, Christians, Jains from the three neighbouring countries Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh who have been facing religious persecution there and have entered India on or before December 31 2014.
