Following the Supreme Court decision of the Committee of Administrators for the BCCI for the past 33 months, things have finally changed for the better. The former captain of the Indian Cricket Team, Sourav Ganguly took over as the BCCI President on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019.

Ganguly is all set to head one of the world’s richest cricket board which has been experiencing persistent turmoil since the past three years. Ganguly has been entrusted with all the duties surrounding heading the Indian cricket for the coming nine months conducted at the BCCI’s General Body meeting following the 33 months of the committee run administration.

Sourav Ganguly has been appointed as the 39th President of the BCCI and everything surrounding this major role was finalized this week itself. The thing that attracted the attention of all the people around was when Ganguly graced the occasion wearing the India blazer he wore when he first became the captain of the Indian cricket team.

Addressing the big responsibility, Ganguly stated saying,” I find myself in a position where I can make a change and it's a challenge.”

The conducted meeting also witnessed the reunion of some of the known faces in the cricketing world and administration who were in the CoA administration back in the days. Apart from Ganguly being elected as the President, Jay Shah, who is the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah’s son was elected the secretary of the BCCI.

During the current nine month tenure, Ganguly is set to coordinate with the former President N Srinivasan along with the ex-secretary Niranjan Shah whose children are now part of the BCCI council.

Rajat Sharma, who is the Chief of Delhi and Districts Cricket Association clarified saying, “I'm confident that as BCCI President he will take cricket to greater heights. I am hopeful that Jay Shah and Sourav Ganguly and their team will deliver. This is start of a new era for Indian cricket.”

Adding to that, former IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla also added to that saying that Ganguly is going to be an asset because he has been one of the most successful captains in the history of the Indian cricket. Alongside, he also holds the record of being the most successful CAB President as well.

Ganguly, who took over the reign of the Indian cricket team during the darkest hours following the year of 2000 match fixing scandal, he will have to demit the office of the BCCI council till the end of July next year.

With such a vast experience being the secretary and later the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal, Ganguly is expected to take complete reign on the situation and find better ways to overcome the shortcomings that come their way.

Following taking over as the President, Ganguly already does have some important steps that he has planned out for the council and the Indian cricket team. His first objective is to restructure the first class cricket and get the entire administration back on track with respect to the International Cricket Council.

The conflict of interest will also test Ganguly’s tactics as a BCCI President as he will have all the responsibility to get some quality cricketers on board for the team as the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). The same is also associated with the National selection committee.

Ganguly’s tenure is going to start once the International Cricket Council has left India out of their newly formed working group that is expected to affect the share India has in the ICC revenue.
