Indian Railways’ First Private Train to Hit Tracks on Oct 4

In its first, Indian Railways is all set to start its private train Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express from October 5, which will be entirely run by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

The much-awaited Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express, which will cover the distance between Delhi and Lucknow in six hours and fifteen minutes, will run six days a week, except Tuesdays. It will be commenced by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on October 4. The regular service of New Delhi-Tejas Express will begin from October 5. IRCTC Tejas Express will start running in Lucknow and New Delhi route from October 6.  

Since the start of bookings for Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express on last Saturday, more than 2,000 passengers have booked their tickets up to now, according to a report by PTI.

Ticket Booking Rules and Cancellation Charges   

The ticket price for Lucknow to New Delhi Tejas Express will be Rs 1,125 for AC chair car and Rs 2,310 for executive chair car. The New Delhi to Lucknow Tejas Express ticket will be priced at Rs 1,280 for AC chair car passengers and Rs 2,450 for executive chair car.

Apart from IRCTC website irctc.co.in or its mobile app, travelers can also book tickets through online travel portals such as Paytm, Ixigo, PhonePe, Make My Trip, Google, Ibibo, Railyatri, etc.

No reductions, privileges or duty passes will be allowed on the Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express trains. Moreover, these trains will have advance reservation period of 60 days. Children of 5 years and above will be charged the full fare. The Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express will begin its journey from Lucknow at 6.10 a.m. and reach Delhi at 12.25 p.m. On its return journey, the train will leave New Delhi at 4.30 p.m. and will reach Lucknow at 10.45 p.m.

Food on Wheels

Also, IRCTC is all geared up to bring food on wheels. There will be foods and drinks for passengers of both the category. Passengers can have tea/coffee along with cookies soon after they board the train. Premium cookies, nimboo pani, and flavored lassi will be available for executive class travelers.

For breakfast, travelers will be offered vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. In the vegetarian combo, one can opt vegetable cutlets with poha or uttapam, coconut chutney, Medu Vada and suji uttapam. In the non-vegetarian dish, there will be options of masala omellete and sauteed vegetables. The executive class passengers can also have cornflakes for breakfast.  

Apart from usual combo, the passenger can also order mishti dahi, brown bread, and butter, fruit juice from several known brands during the journey. Just before the end of the journey, passengers will be served light refreshments like small masala samosa/branded cookies with tea/coffee premix; additional muffin/slice of cake for Executive class.
