The selection panel which held a meeting yesterday late in the evening did not come to conclusion on a single name.

The panel is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also comprises of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge.

Currently, Central bureau of Investigation is headed by Interim Director, M Nageshwar Rao, he was appointed after removal of former CBI Director, Alok Verma.

Alok Verma was removed from his post by a panel after they found merit in allegation of corruption against him.

Even Nageshwar Rao appointment was challenged in Supreme Court. But the case is yet to be heard because of both CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justice AK Sikri recused themselves from the hearing.

Speaking to the reporters Mallikarjun kharge after meeting said:

"They government gave us a list of 70-80 names.”

“And no other details shared like where have these individuals worked, what experience do they have.”

He further added that “ we referring to CJI Gogoi have asked all other necessary details and the next meeting will be convened in the next week.”
