Opening batsman Alex Hales should play a vital role in England’s tour of the West Indies, after getting a place in the squad only a month after he had been omitted because of a right hand fracture.
The 28-year-old opener has 11 Tests and 40 ODI under his belt; he suffered the injury during the disastrous tour of India in January.
Hales was left out of the original squad that was announced on 27th January. He has been summoned after a scan confirming that he had sufficiently recovered from his injury. Although, he still has to undergo rehab, when he gets to the West Indies to ensure he is totally fit.
The Nottinghamshire batsman made England’s highest individual ODI score - 171 against Pakistan at his Trent Bridge home ground. He will rejoin his international team mates three days before the first match in Antigua on March 3rd.
Hales tweeted: "Antigua tomorrow. Can't wait to get back among it!"
The ECB confirmed that Alex Hales will arrive tomorrow evening at local time. “Alex will continue his rehab with ECB until the medical and coaching teams deem that he is fit enough to join the squad officially.”
England are due to play a three One Day International series against the West Indies, two matches will be played in Antihua and one in Barbados.
