Lawrence sentenced 30 months prison for stealing Gold in his rectum

A former employee of Royal Canadian Mint has been sentenced to prison for 30 months after he was found guilty of stealing gold coins by concealing them in his rectum.

Leston Lawrence 35 years old stole $127,116 (CA $165,541; 100,000pounds) of gold in 22 pieces.

He was found guilty in Novermber 2016, When Lawrence was caught he already successfully sold 17 of the gold pieces through Ottawa Gold Buyers.
Ontario Court Judge Peter Doody ordered Lawrence to pay a $145,900 fine.

Judge passed his sentence on Thursday (2nd Feb), he ruled that, if Lawrence failed to pay the fine within three months of his release then he should serve another 30 months in prison.

During Investigation Vaseline and latex gloves were found in the mint employee's locker.

Local news reported, Judge Doody said “the items could have been used to facilitate insertion of gold items inside his rectum."

The 17 laundered pucks weighed as much as 264g apiece and were sold for sums up to $7,300 each between 2014 and 2015.

He was convicted of conveying gold out of the mint, breach of trust by a public official and possession of property obtained by crime.

Lawrence used the money to buy a boat in Florida, USA and he built a house in Jamaica, the court heard.

The job of Lawrence was to purify the gold and sometimes he worked alone in an area not covered by security cameras.

He worked at the Royal mint from the year 2008 to 2015.
