Bernard Cazeneuve named new French PM!

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve was named the country’s new Prime Minister by the president François Hollande after Manuel Valls resigned. The next presidential elections is scheduled to be held in May.

Mr. Hollande said after appointment the new PM, that, The government will work “up to the end, to its last day, to prepare the future”.

The 53-year-old Mr. Cazeneuve has served in various government roles, including budget and Europe minister before becoming Interior Minister in April 2014.

“He has a good knowledge of the security issues and the fight against terrorism, which are the government’s priorities,” said an aide to Mr. Hollande.

Mr. Cazeneuve will be replaced by Bruno Le Roux in the Interior Ministry, currently the leader of the Socialists in the lower house of Parliament.

Cazeneuve is a lawyer by training, has been an MP since 1997. He also served mayor of Cherbourg between 2001 and 2012, when he gave up the position to join the government.
