Strong quake has hit Taiwan, injuring 221 people who were pulled out from rubble. The death toll rises to five. In the southern Taiwanese city of Tainan, two residential high-rises collapsed when a shallow 6.4-magnitude earthquake was struck on Saturday. Many are still trapped inside. According to Tainan city emergency center, the death toll rises to five and 115 were hospitalized. Two people suffered cardiac arrest.

According to Taiwan official news agency, a 10-day-old infant and a 40-year-old man were in critical stage when they were pulled out from Wei Guan residential building with 17 floors. In 60 households, around 200 people were believed to have been living. Several other buildings also were partially damaged. As per the Central News Agency report, dozens were rescued from a market and a seven-floor building.

People were being helped by the firefighters from the building. Darkened parts of the structure are being searched for survivors using cranes. According to Newscasters, other areas of the city were still being canvassed for possible damage. Military personnel marched into one area of the collapse carrying large shovels.
