Farooq Abdullah, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference chief, said that the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) would remain with Pak and Jammu and Kashmir would be with India. This controversial statement immediately triggered an angry rebuttal from several leaders.
According to reports from ANI, Abdullah was reported as saying to reporters that, "PoK is in Pakistan, and will remain. J&K is in India, and will remain. We need to understand this,"
"War is not the solution, only lives are lost. Dialogue is the only option," he added. He is seen endorsing the Pakistan line on Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir's Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh said, "The 1994 Parliament resolution clearly said that Pakistan Occupied Kashmir is constitutionally a part of India."
Since independence and partition in 1947, India and Pak have fought three wars, two over Kashmir. The disputed frontier is one of the heavily militarized regions of the World. Ceasefire violations and border clashes at the Line of Control are also posing a constant risk escalating tension between India and Pakistan.
