Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has said that the centre is ready to convene an all-party meet for discussing on the voting rights of NRIs and e-postal ballot exercise to franchise. He has replied to the “calling attention” motion moved by Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad, by saying the government is acting on the report given by the Election Commission for deciding the voting rights of over one crore NRIs, and he also cleared that the centre is not moving as directed by the Supreme Court.

The minister has said that the poll panel recommendations also came across the options of e-postal ballots and proxy voting and the government had submitted before the Supreme Court that it accepted the recommendations.

Opposition parties have demanded due rights to NRIs by reiterating they are not against NRIs voting rights, but criticised the government over its proposal without consulting the political parties.
