Pakistan has got the distinction, albeit the undesirable type, of having the worst airport in the world. Islamabad's Benazir Bhutto International airport was recently voted as the worst across the world, according to an online poll concluded recently.

The poll was conducted by the Guide to Sleeping at Airports website, which polled Islamabad airport as the worst.

Benazir Bhutto International airport was ranked the worst based on several parameters like facilities, comfort, customer service and cleanliness, according to reports in the Independent. The airport has been described as a “central prison” as aggressive security checks and uncleanliness remain the highlights of this airport.

According to the website, travelers had often complained about the poor facilities at the airport. The airport was reportedly unable to handle passenger. This had been the state of things at the airport for for more than a decade. Thankfully, the end seems to be near for ISB.

Saudi Arabia has lapped the second place in the poll of worst airport in the world. King Abdulaziz International Airport, in Jeddah was voted the second worst airport in the world. The airport is known for rude immigration officers and long queues.

Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, in Nepal was placed the third in the polling for worst airports in the world.

Manila’s Ninoy Aquino international airport (NAIA) is now the fourth worst airport. The NAIA had remained at the top for three consecutive years.

New York City’s LaGuardia airport given the 10th place. In February US vice-president Joe Biden had compared the airport to a “third-world country”.
