Actress-turned politician Hema Malini has revealed her lack of empathy for the homeless destitude women in Mathura. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader stated that widows from Bengal and Bihar should stay in their respective states and not come to Mathura.

Hema Malini, who is the BJP MP from Mathura, stoked a controversy with her statement. The BJP leader shockingly stated that widows from Bengal and Bihar should stay in their own states, instead of crowding the holy city of Mathura.
 
The 65-year-old Lok Sabha leader reportedly said the widows who are not from Mathura need not come come there from other states. Both Bengal and Bihar have many famous temples. Widows from Bengal should stay in that state and those from Bihar should also stay in their home state.

The controversial statement was made by Hema Malini when she visited her parliamentary constituency Mathura. Vrindavan, which is a part of Mathura, is the home of destitude widows mainly from Bengal and Bihar.

Hema Malini said there were more than 40,000 widows in Vrindavan and that there was no place accommodate more of them.

"There are 40,000 widows in Vrindavan. I think there is no more place in the city. A large population is coming from Bengal... that's not right. Why don't they stay in Bengal? There are nice temples there. The same is true for those from Bihar," said BJP leader Hema Malini.

Ms. Malini even talked of speakin to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and others over the issue of destitude widows crowding Vrindavan. The BJP leader believes that these widows are the responsibility of the states they come from.

Later Hema Malini clarified her statement saying she meant to say that sons should not disown their mothers and throw them out of the house. They should make arrangements to take care of them and provide for them, added the BJP leader.
