Did the world lose much more than 298 people, who were on board the ill-fated flight MH17. The world fears that the cure for Aids may have been lost with the Malaysia Airlines plane crash.

The plane was flying with around 100 scientists and researchers, who were among the “best and brightest” in the field of Aids. The group of scientists were set to attend the global Aids 2014 conference to be held in Melbourne, Australia.

Joep Lange, former president of the International Aids Society and a world-famous researcher was also a part of the group.

As of now, the exact number of scientists travelling in the ill-fated plane is not known. However, delegates in Sydney have informed that e-mails indicate that flight MH17 could be carrying near about 100 delegates.

Canadian researcher Trevor Stratton, one of the delegates attending the conference revealed that scientists were close to developing a vaccine against Aids. Stratton says that the the cure for AIDS could have been on that plane. In such a case human civilization has lost the most.

Stratton says one can only wonder as to what kind of expertise was on that plane. The research for an Aids vaccine has been going on for a long time. Prominent researchers have been close to getting vaccines and there is hope among people about the possible cure and end of AIDS, added Stratton.

Professor Richard Boyd, Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories director, has described the death of around 100 Aids researchers on board the ill-fated plane as gut-wrenching loss. He reportedly said that the plane had “some serious HIV leaders”.

Boyd says loss of the scientists would have global ramifications. Whenever a leader in any field is lost, it has deep impact. The knowledge they hold is irreplaceable.

With the crash of the Malaysia Airlines the scientific community has lost global leaders and some bright young people who would have become future leaders, added Boyd.
