As the aggressive and assertive apex court of India reopens today after two-month-long summer recess, expect both the Congress-led UPA and BJP-led NDA to be on tenterhooks.
For the UPA, which had been on the receiving end of the Supreme Court's wrath when in power, there seems to be little relief post election-rout. Scams and failed policies will continue to plague Congress and its allies over 2G spectrum allocation, coalgate scam, black money, PIL contesting against Aadhaar cards and appointment of Lokpal.
The re-commencement of 2G Spectrum scam, especially, is likely to bring several members of the Coongress' ex-ally DMK, including former Union ministers like A. Raja and Dayanidhi Maran and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi.
And with the NDA's legal team, chaired by Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi and Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar together with a team of other Assistant Solicitors General, set to go out hammer and tongs against UPA, the road ahead seems bleak for the fallen government.
Even NDA government is likely to come under scanner when the Supreme Court commences hearing on gay sex being a punishable crime. Erstwhile, allies of the saffron brigade like RSS and VHP had vehemently opposed gay sex, touting it as “against the ethos of Indian culture.”
Not Just BJP and Congress, but Arvind Kejriwal led AAP will also come under legal microscope when Supreme Court hears the petition filed by the party challenging President's rule in Delhi and keeping the assembly suspended despite Kejriwal's demand for fresh elections.
With so many pending scams and scandals lined up in the apex court, we hope the upcoming months will be hugely terrorizing for the political parties with the apex court in no mood to spare the guilty.
