After sweeping the 2014 Lok Sabha election with a massive mandate and being propelled to the top post of country's Prime Minister, a fervent Narendra Modi now can't wait to get the ball of development rolling. Riding high on the promises of good governance and great development, Prime minister Narendra Modi outlined a series of measures and reforms to put back the rails of Indian economy on high growth path. Laying the blueprint for a new governance paradigm that stresses on transparency, accountability and efficiency, Modi government launched an ambitious set of agendas to be worked upon right away. We decode eleven of them.
Agriculture and food: Curtailing food prices seems to be the the foremost agenda for our new PM for now. Vowing to check the ever-growing food inflation, Modi plans to improve agriculture productivity through modern farm techniques and collaborate university and farmers to check the rise in price. Not just that, the progressive PM also aims to modernize farming practices, prevent hoarding and black marketing, reform public distribution system, boost investment, peg down non-cultivable land for development, and introduce latest irrigation schemes to boost agriculture in the country.
Transport: All transport ministries will be clubbed under one umbrella so that policy decisions benefit all segments of transport. Also, there are plans to introduce diamond quadrilateral of high-speed trains, specialized agri-rail networks for perishable products, develop low cost airports, and connect ports through Sagar Mala project.
Jobs: The new government, even while pushing for development, plans to create more job opportunities for the youth to eradicate unemployment. Announcing a slew of measures to create jobs, the new government has plans to strategically promote labor intensive manufacturing and expand job opportunities by promoting agro and tourism industries.
Energy: In a bid to boost country's economy and cut the number of blackouts, the government will brainstorm a comprehensive National Energy Policy and focus on development of energy related infrastructure, human resource and technology. The national solar mission will be expanded and houses and industries will be connected to gas-grids. It has all plans to operationalize global civil nuclear deals and develop nuclear power for civilian purposes.
External affairs: Rebooting India, the government has plans to revitalize its ties with and standing in Saarc nations. Not just that, it actively wants to engage with China, Japan, Russia, other neighbors as well as intensify ties with US.
Infrastructure: To provide a much-needed boost to its infrastructure sector, Modi government is planning a multi-billion dollar infra fund to perk up investments. Slow-moving highway projects are likely to be fast-tracked and dedicated freight industrial corridors are likely to be built.
Tourism: Foreseeing great potential in tourism industry to revive India, the Modi government intents to build 50 tourist circuits and boost pilgrimage tourism.
Defence: To overhaul defence procurement and preparedness, the government has plans to liberalize FDI, roll-out one-rank one pension, appoint Veterans Commission and set up National Maritime Authority among other things.
Minorities and women: Not to be left behind, efforts will be made for the welfare of both women and minorities Modern education will be provided to Muslims, 33% women's quota will be a reality on Parliament, zero tolerance against violence on women. Efforts will be made to return Kashmiri Pandits their land, deal illegal immigrants' issue in northeast with an iron hand and modernize madrassa.
Internal security: The Prime Minister of India has made his stance clear on terrorism citing that no forms of terrorism, extremism, riots, and crime would be tolerated. All efforts will be taken to curbing communal violence in states.
Centre-state relations: Dissolving the differences between state and center and divesting state with equal responsibilities and independence, Team Modi wants centre and state to work as Team India. He has all plans to revive National Development Council and Inter-State Council as well.
