Narendra Modi might be many things to many people. For some, he could be an autocrat, to others, he could be a symbol of change and vision. But for the Indian women, Modi signifies just one thing — “hotness Modi-fied”. Really?
Well, if we are to go by the current hubbub, as stated in an article in the Open Magazine, the 2014 General Election has given the country a new sex symbol — Mr. Modi. Like his male followers, even the female lot speak admiringly of his work and world-vision, his thundering oratory skills and his aura. While some swoon over his well-groomed countenance, others can't stop going gaga over his rugged manliness.
Believe it or not, Modi has won some serious women supporters, not owing to his talks on development, improving economy and driving country to progress, but for his sheer masochism, his savvy style and his fabled 56-inch chest, claims the Open Magazine.
Hot or not, one cannot deny that the next Prime Minister of India is one of the best dressed politicians in the country. Wearing rimless Bvlgari glasses, carefully coordinated vests on his silk kurtas and carrying a Mont Blanc pen, Mr. Modi's sartorial sense is a clear indication to the attention he pays to his style, color and cut.
Says his tailor, Bipin Chauhan: “Modi had once told me, he cannot compromise on three things — his eyes, voice and clothes.”
But the big question is: Is all the unsubstantiated gushing and the silly urge of media to hype every aspect of the political winner called for? Is it really important to reframe Mr Modi as Mr Hotness?
In an Open Magazine's article, a lady gushes: "There is something very innocent and virginal about him, like a single guy from an all-boys’ school, which of course the RSS is. I feel he knows how to get women’s attention."
Now calling a 62-year-old man with white bear and gray hairs as innocent and virginal is absurd. But she isn't the only one.
Ever since his nationwide poll campaign kicked off , publicity starved starlets and wannabe models — from Mallika Sherawat to Sherlyn Chopra — have been trying their best to ride the Modi coattails to fame.
What's more obnoxious are the statements and words being used to define his virility. Says Meghna Patel, the model who posed nude with Modi pics for American Beauty Style, “He’s like that single uncle you fancy who occasionally comes over for meals." Think Mr Modi is going to be particularly thrilled with an endorsement like that? No way!
Of all the women supporters who swoon over Modi manliness, there is this one woman supporter who appreciates Modi on totally different grounds. Poonam Vinod Lal, a software engineer part of 'NaMoBharti volunteer group, told the Open, "Just look at how respectfully [Modi] speaks to and about women. None of those pretentious, politically-correct, cutesy speeches, where they say something and do something else."
