SpiceJet and IndiGo have slashed their airfares again on Tuesday. This is the fourth time in the last 50 days that the no-frills carriers have offered airline tickets at 15%-20% discounts. Lowest air fares are on tickets booked 90 days in advance to the travel.

The slashed airfares will be applicable for tickets booked between March 12 and March 16 for domestic sectors air travel between April 14 and June 30, 2014. However, the two low-fare carriers did not reveal the exact number of seats available at a discount rate.

SpiceJet has issued a statement revealing all inclusive airfares as low as Rs. 1999 on select routes and flights. A Delhi-Chandigarh ticket would cost only Rs. 1,999, Hyderabad – Cochin ticket would be available for Rs. 2,999, while an airticket for Amritsar – Mumbai would cost Rs. 3,999 in the slashed rates.

Yatra.com president Sharat Dhall says that the flash sale on advanced booking of air tickets announced by IndiGo and SpiceJet is likely to be followed by other airlines as well. According to Dhall this might be the last chance to buy air tickets at a discount for the travellers planning to fly out this summer season.

Subhash Goyal, STIC Travel Group chairman, believes that the carriers must have quite a few tickets on discount as the sale has been announced for five days. According to Goyal the airlines have announced the discount to jack up demand for April, which is usually a lean month for airtravel as most schools have their exams at this time.

Domestic carriers have offered discounts twice in January of 50% and 30%, respectively. While on February 24 another discount of 75% was offered by airlines. The fare war began with Spice Jet, Indigo and GoAir announcing slashed fares which was followed by Jet Airways and Air India after a day, on all three instances.
