The Congress party's youth wing won six seats out of eight in Gujarat University elections. The clean sweep by the youth wing of the Congress has made the party question the much hyped 'Modi wave'.
The National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Congress party's students' wing, captured six seats out of eight in Gujarat University polls and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), BJP's student wing, won only two seats. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who's in charge of the party's youth wings, will meet and congratulate the successful candidates of NSUI at the party office today.
The positive outcome of the university polls in Gujarat is like a breath of fresh air for the Congress as majority of the opinion polls suggest an edge to the Modi-led BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
While the Congress is thrilled with the outcome of the Gujarat university polls, it has started questioning the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's ability in keeping his own house in order.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi, while speaking at the AICC conference, stated that NSUI's victory in Gujarat University polls is not a one-off case. Earlier the Congress youth wing had emerged victorious in a similar manner in MS University Students Union (MSUSU) in Vadodara, inspite of the BJP's student wing getting full state support in the elections.
Singhvi said that NSUI's victory in Gujarat University elections is a significant event. It questions the credentials of a person claiming a wave for himself, when he is unable to keep his own house in order, said Singhvi, while adding that people will soon see through the act.
