Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy suggested paying politicians a salary that is comparable to top executives in the corporate world. Murthy's statement came on Tuesday when he was speaking at the DD Kosambi festival of ideas in Panaji regarding ways to weed out corruption in the country.
The Executive Chairman of Infosys said that politicians should be adequately compensated as their job involves lots of hard work and enormous travelling. Their official salary doesn't compensate them adequately. So they are forced to look into other avenues of income that breeds corruption, said the Infosys co-founder.
Murthy also cited an example of a Silicon Valley techie who resigned from his high salaried job to work as an MP in India and now the man is struggling to execute his normal work.
Corruption is not just in the politicians, even the common people contribute to it. People have to work hard and not complain about an eight hours shift. Hard work has to be ingrained in every individual to weed out corruption, said Murthy.
