Jesus or Pope? Hitler or Napoleon Bonaparte? Abraham Lincoln or George Washington? If you wonder who is the most important man in the world, irrespective of their eminence, the answer is right here.

Computer scientists Steven Skiena and Charles Ward have compiled a massive list of history's most significant figures using a number of Internet-based metrics. And as per their findings, Jesus is the most significant person in human history, followed by Napoleon and Shakespeare, as ruled by the internet.

Their findings have been clearly influenced by the opinions build and reflected on their Wikipedia pages over time. Both Skiena and Ward have used quantitative analysis to rank more than a thousand historical figures and prominent people, from Elvis to Beethoven, Stalin and Queen Victoria.

While Jesus is the front runner, prophet Muhammad has been placed at number four on the list.

Leaders like Napoleon and Alexander the Great finished second and ninth respectively.

The list also names three US presidents, two of which were the founding fathers of the United States, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. However, when it comes to significance, both are outranked by Abraham Lincoln, who is listed as number five.

The absence of women on the list is quite conspicuous, which the authors explain as the upshot of centuries of inequality rendering female figures as non-significant.

THE TEN MOST SIGNIFICANT FIGURES IN HUMAN HISTORY
1. Jesus
2. Napoleon Bonaparte
3. William Shakespeare
4. Muhammad
5. Abraham Lincoln
6. George Washington
7. Adolf Hitler
8. Aristotle
9. Alexander the Great
10. Thomas Jefferson
