A few months back, when Miley Cyrus hit the headlines for her nudity-filled, highly sexed-up performance in MTV Video Music Awards, little did anybody think that the controversial pop livewire would go on to dominate the list of Time's Person of the Year. And no, we are not kidding!

Miley Cyrus is fast emerging as the favorite among the readers in an online poll launched to gauge the most popular face of the year. Cyrus is currently leading the poll with 29.4 per cent of votes.

Cyrus is beating global leaders, entrepreneurs, authors, prominent Hollywood figures, sports stars, and the Boston bombers to emerge as the one who, "for better or for worse, has done the most to influence the events of the year," according to Time.

Coming in second behind Miley is Hindu nationalist Narendra Modi, the prime ministerial candidate for India’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party. He currently has 12.5% of the votes. NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden is at the third position with 9.6 percent.

However, her online triumph might not translate into victory as at the end of the day it's the magazine's editorial staff who ultimately gets to pick the winner.

The online voting closes on December 4. The Time's Person of the Year will be declared on December 11.
