The Press Trust of India (PTI)  made an announcement that Indian Cabinet passed an order on Tuesday to untie a Supreme Court ruling that indicated condemned lawmakers cannot hold elected office in parliament otherwise otherwise in state legislatures.

In addition, the national news agency reported, quoting unnamed sources that the Cabinet issued an ordinance to prevent disqualification of lawmakers condemned in criminal cases carrying jail terms of at least two years. During a July ruling, the Supreme Court had struck down a provision in the electoral law that protects a condemned lawmaker from being secured from parliament if they have appealed their strong belief. The executive rule, passed at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, can become law only if sanctioned formally by Parliament not farther than six months.
