WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called 'Advanced Chat Privacy,' which enhances the protection of both one-on-one and group chats. This feature aims to deter unauthorized attempts to save media files or export chat information. While WhatsApp already provides end-to-end encryption for its messages and calls, the new Advanced Chat Privacy option allows users to restrict sharing of content outside the platform, thereby increasing privacy. This functionality is being made available to users on smartphones operating iOS and Android. The announcement regarding the Advanced Chat Privacy feature was officially communicated through a blog post on Wednesday by the Meta-owned messaging service. According to WhatsApp, this capability enhances privacy in both individual and group conversations, making it harder for others to disseminate content externally.

When enabled, the Advanced Chat Privacy feature prevents individuals from exporting chats and stops media sent to other users from being automatically downloaded to their devices. Additionally, it restricts the utilization of messages for artificial intelligence purposes (Meta AI). WhatsApp asserts that this feature provides reassurance to all chat participants that their exchanges are less likely to be shared outside the group. This is particularly beneficial in group chats involving participants who may not be well acquainted, especially when sensitive topics are discussed. To activate this feature, users can select the Chat name and then choose Advanced Chat Privacy. The rollout of this new setting is accessible to anyone who has upgraded their WhatsApp to the most recent version, as indicated by the company.

WhatsApp has also indicated that this is just the initial iteration of the feature and is working on further enhancements to bolster the protections offered by Advanced Chat Privacy. Additionally, WhatsApp provides various security options, such as disappearing messages, chat locks, and end-to-end encryption, catering to users with heightened privacy and security needs.
