Aditya Kundu is said to become second Greco- Roman finalist from India at the senior Asian wrestling championship as he has comfortably won his first two bouts. This has not happened but a semifinal setback had not been enough for keeping him away from the podium which has added to the host’s medal tally with a bronze medal in the category of 72 kilo grams.

The young civil inspector Aditya Kundu of 23 years of age and who is from Chandigarh has finished off Nao Kusaka who was his opponent from Japan, in a double- quick time, which had made an 8-0 win by the technical superiority and was done in under two minutes.

Aditya Kundu is a late convert to Greco- Roman just like most of the Indian wrestlers but unlike others who make the shift because of their inability in breaking through in Freestyle. Kundu was said to be making the shift more out of compulsion.

The Greco- Roman wrestlers of India has missed the opportunities on the second day of the Asian wrestling championships as the three being Ashu and Hardeep from Haryana and Aditya Kundu from Punjab have settled for bronze medals. As the Greco- Roman competition has come to an end, India has a total of four bronze and one gold.

Aditya Kundu had been trained by his father Ranbir Singh at the Gulzar Akhada in Zirakpur and he is now hoping for dropping down to 67 kilo grams in order to get a chance at the Olympic qualifiers as 72 kilo grams is not a category in the Olympics and therefore, Aditya Kundu would have to contend with another Ashu who is another youngster who won a 67 kg bronze.

Ashu who is from Sonepat’s Panchi Jatan village had experienced a little difficulty for overcoming the challenge of Muhammad Alhasan 8-1 of Syria. Ashu had to stay away from the match for a year as he had suffered a career- threatening shoulder injury during the trials for senior national squad in the month of March in 2019.

Hardeep who is the first Indian heavy- weight Greco- Roman wrestly of 97 kilo grams for qualifying in the Rio Olympics of the year 2016, has earned a bronze which is said to be his third bronze for the country India on Day two as he had defeated Beksultan Makhmudov of Kyrgyzstan with 3-1.
