Olympic Medalist Mary Kom, a renowned pugilist from India, has decided to quit the participations in sport events after the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics. Thereafter she is planning to concentrate on her academy in Imphal for producing more Mary Koms (Boxers) with quality.
“I have planned out what to do after Rio Olympics. I will give my full time to my academy. I want to produce more Mary Koms, more world champions. I will also be available to support any social cause,” she said at the launch of ‘Boxout’, a digital campaign against social evils initiated by Dida Sportswear at IIT Delhi.
She told that PM Modi has asked her to inform after her academy gets ready, he is likely to come for opening the centre for preparing future sport stars. She said that she is not setting up the academy for money, but to encourage the poor youngsters with desire to become boxers.
The Magnificent Mary, told clearly that she is ready to set up the academies and training centres in different states if assistance is given, and she is ready to encourage others with guidance.
MC Mary Kom, the first Indian woman boxer to get a gold medal in the Asian Games in 2014 in Incheon reportedly slammed the federation for its poor functioning and reckless disturbances.
Her decision to encourage poor aspirants for becoming pugilists can ensure better scope for female boxers in India.
