Barcelona legend and Spain midfielder Xavi is quitting the international scene for good. He will no more play for the Spanish national team.

The 34-year-old midfielder has won World Cup (2010) and two European Championships (2008 and 2012) with Spain. He represented Spain in 133 matches, a record and has scored 13 goals.

He made his big debut with Spain on 15 November 2000, aged 20, against the Netherlands.

He was named the player of the tournament at the 2008 European Championships as Spain ended a 44-year wait for a major international trophy and began a period of domination on the world stage.

"I'm grateful for all those years," Xavi told a news conference.

"It has been a fantastic time. I'm not 20 any more, but I still have the motivation of a kid."

Xavi was a member of the Spain squad which failed to get past the first round at this year's World Cup in Brazil.
