As the Supreme Court of India takes an unprecedented approach to purge BCCI and Indian cricket of corruption, the sword of Damocles now hangs over the head of Indian skipper MS Dhoni, who had clearly denied the existence of corruption in Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and by his association to the main perpetrators, N Srinivasan and Gurunath Meiyappan, is now laid to open scrutiny. And it is only a matter of time before this scrutiny goes official.
Meanwhile, it's buzzed that the India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has offered to quit.
"He communicated with N Srinivasan today and it is understood that Dhoni has offered to resign as captain following the issue coming before the Supreme Court. Dhoni could have felt that his name and brand value could fall in a big way and took this call," a Hindustan Times report revealed.
However, we are yet to get an independent or official confirmation on that.
Hitherto, Dhoni had shielded the truth with silence. However, it's time to act now: For his team, the sport, his millions of fans, the believers of cricket and the cap that he wears. And above all, for himself. He has been invariably linked to this scandal and the only way to salvage himself and get back his dignity would be accepting things and speaking the truth.
