New Zealand's Corey Anderson scripted a new history after he slammed the fastest-ever ton in one-day international cricket in just 36 balls.
The 23-year-old left-handed batsman scored a stunning century in just 36 balls to hit a milestone, and trumped the previous record held by Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi for the past 17 years, by just one ball. Shahdi Afridi’s 100 had come off 37 balls. Anderson scored 131 off just 46 balls.
Corey's impressive 131 was a part of the New Zealand’s mammoth score of 283 for four in just 21 overs, in which they clocked a 159-run victory over the West Indies in a rain-shortened match. Apparently, Anderson only discovered he had set a world record at the end of the innings.
“I didn’t have a clue actually. It’s not that I’d look it up and try and take it down. But it’s nice to have it,” Anderson said. “I thought I would look at singles and try and get myself in but a couple came out of the middle and you keep going.
“Me and Jesse started thinking every ball was either going to get us out or go for six and it’s nice to have that feeling when you’re out there.”
