The feeling of motherhood is certainly second to none. Physically being able to give birth to a child is surpassing, especially for a gay father, it is no less than a dream. One father turned the dream into reality.

The 32-year-old Freddy McConnel is the proud father of the baby boy, who opted for a sperm donor to get pregnant with his first child. McConnel is transgender and was born female.

Even after having transitioned into a man, he was pregnant and had kept his womb, even when he transformed into a man because he didn't want to obviate the option of having kids.

BBC documentary titled ‘Seahorse: The Dad Who Gave Birth’ beautifully showcased the journey of McConnel including his life’s ups and downs.

McConnel started taking testosterone injections, which helps to regulate male hormone levels when he was 25 and was transitioning from female to male. These injections and supplements are usually taken to make transgender men develop facial hair like a man. People taking these pills and injection also tend to have muscles and a deeper voice. To reshape his chest, McConnel also underwent surgery but chose not to have a hysterectomy, an operation to remove a woman's uterus.

According to the documentary, McConnel wasn’t even recognized as a pregnant transgender man, which virtually tells his journey with a baby bump was not easy. His pregnancy even made a headline, which consequently made him the target of brutal trolls. He even received death threats.

Many also laid aside his pregnancy saying that "there's no such thing as a pregnant man".

"As a trans man to carry your own child is a scary, daunting prospect. You just worry for your child that you want them to be happy," said McConnel in the BBC documentary.
