Dengue can affect your sight by causing congestion in the eyes and, in rare cases, blindness. Thus, high fever along with low platelet count is not the only manifestation of the mosquito-borne disease. Eye damage due to dengue can be controlled by early diagnosis of infection in dengue patients.

Additional professor of ophthalmology at AIIMS Dr Bhavana Chawla said, "Eye infections in dengue patients are a known complication and are sometimes an initial symptom. We recently had a patient who lost his vision due to the infection. His eyes were swollen and tests showed he was bleeding internally. We managed to save him but could not help him get his sight back.”

Senior consultant, internal medicine at Max hospital, Patparganj, Dr Mukesh Mehra was qioted by TOI as saying that in most dengue patients, congestion in the eyes is seen but hardly ever leads to blurry vision.

"A 35-year-old man suffering from blurry vision due to dengue was discharged from our hospital this week," Mehra said.
According to experts, epidemiology of eye disease in dengue patients could range between 5% and 6%. It is high in patients admitted in hospitals with dengue. The range is from 16% to 40.3%,

As per research published in a medical journal, 'Survey of Ophthalmology', the time of onset of symptoms of eye can range between anywhere between two days to five months from the time patent get dengue fever. However, mostly patients suffer from eye damage from when the platelet count severely drops.
