We often end up blaming the weather for that sudden bout of sneeze, abrupt runny nose and out of the blue strep throat when more often than not its the handiwork of germs that makes us ill. These gross, too-small-to-see microbes haunt every corner of our dwelling and working space and are quick to spread infection and disease. The only way to stay healthy is to steer clear of these germs. But how? Given that they exist everywhere, it's rather impossible to avoid germs in our day-to-day lives. So how do you save yourself from falling ill. Fear not. We tell you five interesting ways to avoid germs. Pay heed and you might never catch a cold again!

Wash Your Hands Frequently and Correctly
You would be surprised to know that only five percent of people wash their hands after using the restroom. Yuck! Make it a habit to lather up with anti-bacterial soap and water and rub your hands for 20 seconds or more after using the loo. Also, ensure to wash your hands after you have sneezed into your hands, handled raw foods or touched anything germy like ATM machine, reusable plastic bags, gym equipments etc.

Carry Hand Sanitizer for Emergencies
At a time and place when you know that sink and suds won't be readily available, it's best to have a sanitizer as a backup plan. While sanitizers don't completely kill the germs, its alcohol-based formula can do enough to keep your hands safely clean.

Use a Metal Water Bottle
Believe it or not, plastic bottles are hotspots for germs. Replace your plastic water bottles with metal ones. Also, once empty, rinse your bottle using hot, soapy water to kill all germs.

Clean Your Phone Weekly
Your cell phone is a hotspot for germs like E. coli. Make sure you wipe your phone clean at least once a week using an alcohol-free wipe. Clean the surface of your phone and then wipe it dry using a super-soft cloth.

Mind Your Makeup
Your make-up kit is the favorite hub of germs. Ensure you keep them clean by not sharing them with anyone. Also, take care to clean your brushes and your makeup bag once a month.
