National Democratic Alliance led by BJP has decided not push the Controversial Citizenship and Triple Talaq Amendment bills before Lok Sabha elections.
On Friday in an all part meeting, opposition parties asked the government not to push contentious bills like Triple Talaq and Citizenship bills.
Ghulam Nabi Azad, Opposition leader said the government should take up only those bills for passage on which there is a consensus among all parties.
These bills are likely to be lapsed along with long pending Land Acquisition as well
As per the law, a bill that originates from Lok Sabha but is pending in Rajya Sabha lapses after the Lok Sabha term ends. A bill that originates in and is passed by Rajya Sabha but is pending in Lok Sabha also lapses, as do bills passed by Lok Sabha but are pending in Rajya Sabha.
However, A Bill originating in the Rajya Sabha which has not been passed by the Lok Sabha and which is still pending in the Rajya Sabha does not lapse
