A partially built flyover in Girish Park area of Kolkata has collapsed, leaving at least ten dead and more than 150 are feared of getting trapped under the collapsed bridge, said the police

Currently, rescue operation is underway and people are being recovered from beneath the collapsed bridge. According to eye witnesses, bare hands are being used by the rescuers to pull and save those who are caught under the rubble.

A nearby resident told NDTV that, “We heard a loud rumble and then saw a lot of smoke.” Local media reports said that people are passing water bottles to those who are crying out from help from underneath the collapsed bridge.

The National Disaster Response Force, NDRF, and Army officers are sent to carry out rescue operations.

An NDRF official said: “Our team is on their way to the site with all required equipment, we are also pressing into service canines which will help find trapped people. We will start the operations as soon as possible.”

The construction of the flyover was delayed many times, but was supposed to be finished three years back.
