An approval from the vice- chancellor is awaited by the committee which is constituted to take a decision regarding the fee structure as it likely seems that there would be an increase in the hostel fee for the Non-resident Indian (NRI) students or the students of the foreign nationals.

The vice- chancellor is said to hold a meeting for discussing the matter of whether there should be an increase in the hostels fee for the Non- resident Indians or the foreign nations or not.

Emmanuel Nahar who is from the dean student welfare (DSW) has said that meetings would be held in order to make a decision regarding the fee not being increased from many years in the past and it would be decided as soon as the Vice Chancellor gives a nod to the issue.

It has also been said that decisions should also be made about reserving two rooms in each hostels for the students belonging to the category of Non-resident Indians so that the provision of good facilities to the foreign nationals would be made possible by the Punjab University.

It has been observed that around 220 seats have been reserved in the Punjab University for the Non-resident Indian students.

The Punjab University would be approached by the Non-resident Indians or the foreign nationals on scholarship from their countries under the schemes of self financing or the they would be sponsored by either a relative or an agency.

Emmanuel Nahar has said that, in order to ensure that there is sufficient accommodation to the Non- resident Indians or the foreign nationals, there ought to be reservation of two rooms for the NRI students in every hostel as it has also been demanded by the PU from wing of the Non- resident Indians.

“We are planning that PU can give 15 to 20 seats for the NRI students in the international hostel also,” said Nahar.

Chetan Chauhan who is the president of the Punjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) has said that they have been raising the issue regarding the provision of the rooms for the students who come under the category of the Non- resident Indians as majority of them have been forced to take an accommodations outside the campus as there is no sufficient accommodations for them in the campus.

He has added saying that doing so, would not only be safer for the students but it would also save the time that would be consumed for reaching their respective departments.
