Delhi Ex Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced a groundbreaking healthcare initiative for senior citizens called the Sanjeevini Yojana. This comprehensive health scheme promises unlimited free medical treatment for Delhi residents aged 60 and above in both government and private hospitals. The scheme, named after the life-saving herb from the Ramayana, aims to provide complete medical coverage to Delhi's elderly population. Ex Chief Minister Kejriwal drew parallels between the mythological Sanjeevni herb, which Lord Hanuman brought to save Lakshmana, and this new healthcare program designed to protect senior citizens.

Under this innovative healthcare program, AAP volunteers will conduct door-to-door visits to register eligible senior citizens. The scheme removes all financial barriers to healthcare access by eliminating upper limits on treatment expenses, ensuring comprehensive medical coverage for the elderly. "Our senior citizens have spent their lives building our families and our nation. This scheme is our way of honoring their contribution and ensuring they receive the best possible healthcare without worrying about expenses," said Chief Minister Kejriwal during the announcement.

The Sanjeevini Yojana represents a significant expansion of Delhi's public healthcare system and comes ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 2025. This initiative positions itself as an alternative to the central government's Ayushman Bharat scheme, offering more extensive coverage for Delhi's senior residents. The Delhi government's commitment to universal healthcare access for seniors demonstrates its focus on elderly welfare and healthcare accessibility. The scheme's implementation will begin shortly, with registration drives planned across all Delhi constituencies.
