The central government is sending over 10,000 more soldiers to the state of Manipur, which has been affected by ethnic violence. This will bring the total number of central forces companies in the state, which borders Myanmar, to 288. Manipur's Chief Security Adviser, Kuldiep Singh, informed reporters that the addition of 90 companies, or around 10,800 personnel, has increased the total number of companies deployed in the state to 288. He stated that 258 people have died in the Manipur violence since May 2023. The security forces have already recovered approximately 3,000 weapons that were looted from police armouries during the clashes between the Meitei community and the Kuki tribes.

The various security forces, including the CRPF, BSF, army, Assam Rifles, ITBP, and Sashastra Seema Bal, are working together to address the Manipur situation. They are collaborating to handle any problems that arise. Ongoing operations are already taking place, and a new standard operating procedure will be established to secure the remote areas and national highways.

The violence escalated after a woman from the Hmar tribe, a mother of three, was allegedly killed by suspected Meitei militants in Jiribam's Zairawn village on November 7. In retaliation, two dozen Kuki militants attacked Jiribam's Borobekra on November 11. During the encounter with the CRPF, 10 militants were killed, while the rest took six members of a Meitei family hostage and escaped. Prior to the CRPF encounter, two more Meitei senior citizens were killed by the Kuki militants. The bodies of the six hostages, including an infant, were later found in a river.
