Michelin-Star Chef Opens Saar India Bistro in Midtown

Hemanth Mathur, prolific New York City restaurateur who owns a five Indian restaurants in Manhattan has opened yet another restaurant.

Mathur opened Saar India Bistro at West 51st street between Broadway and Eight Avenue with his wife, Surbhi Sahni a pastry chef. The restaurants specialize in Indian cuisine but will as well incorporate British, Persian and Jewish dishes in the menu.

Mathur has been regarded as one of the city’s best Indian chefs. He previously gained acclaim with his restaurants Tulsi and Devi with Michelin-star which are closed.

"Our goal is to show how food has evolved in India over the past 100 years, serving the dishes exactly as they are prepared and eaten at home today," Sahni said in a statement acquired by Eater.

To focus on Saar, Mathur will be leaving other restaurants Dhaba, Chote Nawab, Chola, Sahib and Mali Marke.

According to the report, the 2,400 square foot restaurant will seat 57 diners.
