Ofcom, the communications watchdog, made new measures, which force Broadband and mobile operators to pay automatic compensation to the consumers for service failures.

The regulator said that, BT and other operators will have to pay consumers and businesses during cut off or slow broadband speeds.

Sharon White, the chief executive of Ofcom, said that,  “if you have a loss of service or a reduction of service you will have an automatic trigger for compensation.”  The new rules will be effected in the next few months, he added.

According to the current system in the telecoms sector, the consumers and businesses have to claim for compensation rather than,  receiving an automatic payment.

The strategy director of Ofcom, Steve Unger, said that,  “we are very keen to make sure the operators have a strong incentive for operators to make sure the fault doesn’t happen in the first place.” The new measures were revealed under as a part of a major review of the telecoms sector.
