Deceased terrorist Afzal Guru’s son Galib Afzal Guru score over 95% in J&K Board School examinations to secure 19th position in the valley. After results came out on Sunday, it is learnt that 14,716 students have cleared the test out of nearly 29,162 students who appeared in the Matric examinations.

Galib Afzal Guru, a class X student of Shah Rasool Memorial School, Sopore, scored 474 marks out of 500. He gave all credit to his success to his family and school teachers. The boy, who is also a cricket buff, is planning for higher studies at his grand parent’s place i.e. Baramulla. He said, "The credit of my success goes to my family who always strived hard for me as well as my teachers who guided me properly.”

“Initially, I used to study for two hours daily, but when the examination dates were announced, I dedicated more time towards my studies. Today, my hard work has paid good results,” Galib said.

Expressing his interest to pursue medicine, Galib said, "I want to pursue Medical Education and want to become a doctor. It is the dream of my parents and family that I become a doctor and I will try to fulfill it."

Tabassum, Galib’s mother, played a pivotal role as a lone mother in the up bringing of Galib. She termed Galib’s achievement as a pride moment to complete to family, but felt her son had the potential to score more. Tabassum said, “I am not happy over the marks, I think my son could have a potential to secure more marks as he is a brilliant student.”

“He (Galib) had a close attachment with his father. Had he (Afzal) been alive we could have celebrated this moment. For every parent, achievement of their children is a great moment in the life," Tabassum said. When Afzal Guru was arrested, Galib was just two years old. In 2013, Afzal Guru was executed for his role in the Parliament attack case.
