Those who thought Facebook is an open forum and that nobody can prevent them from doing anything may have to think again. A wife was ordered by an Italian court to remove her honeymoon photos from Facebook after a marital dispute.
The woman's husband took her to a court in Naples demanding that the pictures be removed from Facebook. His contension was that he had not given the permission to make the photographs public in the social media platform.
The court held the woman guilty under Article 10 of the civil code and charged her with 'violating the right to privacy of her husband'. Now the woman may have to pay damages, for uploading pictures on FB, to her husband.
The Facebook photos included snaps of the couple cuddling and kissing.
The woman's lawyer said that "the use of social networks is now so advanced that we can consider a Facebook wall to be not unlike a private photo album".
After the judgment in their favour, the husband's lawyer said that the court's decision was unprecedented and will prove to be a point of reference for future cases involving Facebook users.
