Martial artists Tony Jaa and Scott Adkins have been cast in the 3D remake of 'Kickboxer'. Jaa and Adkins have joined martial artist Alain Moussi in the remake of the 1989 cult classic.
The film will also feature WWE hero Dave Bautista and UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre.
Alain Moussi will play the lead role in the film, featuring over 20 martial arts disciplines.
Earlier this year Ted Field and Brian O'Shea announced the 3D remake of the cult classic. Field had been planning the remake for over a year.
Hong Kong filmmaker Stephen Fung will direct the remake. Fung is credited with martial arts based Chinese movies like Tai Chi Zero (2012) and Tai Chi Hero (2012).
The story is centred around David and Kurt Sloan, who are descendants of a well-known fighting dynasty based in Venice and California. David wins the Karate World Championship, following which a promoter lures him to Hong Kong. Inspite of Kurt's protest that the man is a crook David goes to Hong Kong. Kurt then travels to Thailand to meet David but finds that he's dead and decides to seek revenge.
The original film had Jean-Claude Van Damme and world kickboxing champion Dennis Alexio in lead roles. Mark DiSalle had directed the 1989 classic.
Adkins has appeared in films like 'The Bourne Ultimatum' and 'The Expendables 2'. While Moussi has featured in several Hollywood films, including the recently released 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'. Bautista is in theaters in Guardians of the Galaxy
Dimitri Logothetis, Nick Celozzi and Field are producing the 3D remake.
