Universal has shifted the release date of action movie 'Lucy'. Luc Besson's action movie has been preponed for some unknown reason.
'Lucy' was initially scheduled for an August 8, 2014 relaease.
Now the film will be released on July 25, 2014, a date which is already overcrowded.
On July 25, Columbia will release comedy film 'Sex Tape', starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel. Paramount is opening Brett Ratner’s 'Hercules', starring Dwayne Johnson, while Lionsgate has 'Step Up All In', from the Step Up franchise.
An August 8 opening would have pitted Lucy against Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which has younger audience, probably the same group that Lucy hopes to attract. Then there is 'Into the Storm', a 3D movie based on tornado disaster from New Line. The film had additional competition from the drama 'The Hundred-Foot Journey', that stars Helen Mirren.
Directed by Luc Besson the movie stars Scarlett Johansson.
