'Pele', the much awaited sports biopic will not release at its scheduled date of before the soccer World Cup. The film has hit injury time due to post-production works and reshoots.

Post-production delays means the biopic on the legendary Brazilian soccer player will not be ready before the mega soccer event unfolds.

Directed by Jeff Zimbalist and written by Michael Zimbalist the producers of the film had hoped to cash in on the free publicity from the hype surrounding the World Cup that will kickoff in Brazil on June 12.

Both Leonardo Lima Carvalho and Kevin de Paula will portray the role of the soccer star at different ages of Pele in his young life. Carvalho will feature young Pele at the age of 10 to 13 years and De Paula will act as the teenaged Pele at the age of 13 to 17 years. The film also features Rodrigo Santoro, Seu Jorge, Vincent D'Onofrio, Colm Meaney and Diego Boneta.

The biopic has been described as an origins story of Pele's rise from the Sao Paulo slums to how he becomes hero of the masses. Pele, at the age of 17, led to Brazil's first World Cup victory, in 1958.
