Yamaha has officially entered the electric scooter market in India by introducing its first model, the EC-06. With a starting price of Rs 1,67,600 (excluding tax), the scooter will be sold initially in designated cities via Yamaha's exclusive Blue Square showrooms. The EC-06 shares its platform with the River Indie. This is a significant step for the company as it begins its venture into electric transportation in India. The EC-06 features an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) that works alongside a 4kWh fixed battery. Together, they produce a peak power of 6.7kW and a torque of 26Nm, reaching a maximum speed of 79km/h. Charging is straightforward using a typical household plug, which requires about eight hours for a complete charge. On one charge, the scooter is certified to travel 169 km, making it ideal for everyday commutes in the city.
At its debut, the EC-06 will only be available in a single color, Bluish White. Yamaha mentions that the scooter is designed in India but reflects a global vision, aimed at city riders seeking a stylish, practical, and environmentally friendly way to travel. It features 200 mm disc brakes at both the front and rear, along with a Combi Brake System (CBS) for safe and accurate braking. Enhancing its premium appearance, the scooter is equipped with LED headlights and taillights, improving visibility during low-light conditions while giving it a modern look. To accommodate various riding preferences, Yamaha has provided the EC-06 with three riding modes - Eco, Standard, and Power. These modes enable riders to select between energy efficiency, a balanced performance, or faster acceleration. Additionally, a convenient Reverse Mode assists in navigating tight areas. The suspension system consists of telescopic front forks with hydraulic dampers and a rear coil spring, ensuring a smooth ride on bumpy city streets. It also includes a colored LCD display that shows information such as speed, battery level, riding modes, and connectivity options.
