With a wad of big ticket movies lined up for release in the coming month, box-office collision seems inevitable.
With as many as 15 films releasing in September alone, filmmakers aren't just jostling for screen space , but also wondering how to make their films stand out in the crowd.
The latest we hear is that Yash Raj Films camp had tried to coax Sanjay Leela Bhansali to postpone the release of his “Mary Kom” to a later date and make way for Aditya Roy Kapur-Parineeti Chopra starrer “Daawat-e-Ishq”.
Needless to say, SLB didn't oblige and YRF had little choice but to release their film on September 19 in lieu of September 5, along with six other films. That's right!
YRF feared that Parineeti's “Daawat-e-Ishq” could get overshadowed by Priyanka's “Mary Kom”. And hence, settled for a different date.
Previously, SLB had to pre-pone “Mary Kom” release from October 2 to September 5 as Shahid
Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor’s “Haider” and Hrithik Roshan-Katrina Kaif’s “Bang Bang” were slated for release on the same date. Perhaps that is why they were unwilling to meddle with “Mary Kom” release date once again.
All said and done, it's high time that YRF realizes that a solo release in today's day and age is as difficult as it sounds.
