On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the campuses of three Indian Institutes of Management in Jammu, Bodh Gaya, and Visakhapatnam. During the event, he also laid the foundation stone for various projects worth Rs 13,375 crore, which includes permanent campuses for three IITs, 20 Kendriya Vidyalayas, and 13 Navodaya schools. The prime minister dedicated and inaugurated the campuses and buildings at a public function held at the Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu. He highlighted the significant progress made in the education and skill development sectors, which was unimaginable a decade ago.
This reflects the commitment of the government to invest in modern education for the current and future generations. Over the past 10 years, the country has witnessed remarkable growth in the number of schools, colleges, and universities, including the establishment of 50 new degree colleges in Jammu and Kashmir. As a result, 45,000 children who were previously not attending school have now been enrolled, and girl students no longer have to travel long distances for education. The transformation of schools from mere functioning institutions to progressive centers of learning is a testament to the positive changes taking place in the education sector.
Modi unveiled various educational institutions and facilities across India, including technology institutes in Bhilai, Tirupati, and Jammu, as well as a skill-training institute in Kanpur. He also inaugurated new buildings for Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas, while laying the foundation stones for additional campuses and multi-purpose halls. Education Minister Pradhan joined the event virtually. In Bihar, Modi opened 24 academic and residential buildings for IIT-Patna, including a library, auditorium, lecture hall, and student activity center. The permanent campus of IIM-Bodh Gaya was also inaugurated. The institute operated from a temporary campus until the completion of its new, fully-equipped campus. The expansive new campus, covering an area of over 60,000 square meters, was constructed at a cost exceeding Rs 400 crore.
