The Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, 2023 bill, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill (BSB) 2023 have been approved by the Lok Sabha. During the discussion on these criminal bills, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the need to free people from a colonial mindset. He pointed out that the current laws, which were established during the time of British rule, still hold sway in India. Shah highlighted that terms like "Her Majesty," "London Gazette," "British Crown," and "barrister" are still used in India due to these laws.

While presenting the benefits of the new bills, Shah mentioned that the previous laws included punishments for crimes such as looting the government treasury, uprooting railway tracks, and insulting the British crown. However, the focus has now shifted towards crimes against women/children, their impact on the human body, and the security of the country. Additionally, the proposed law includes provisions for military, election, and currency matters.

Furthermore, Shah highlighted that the new law includes a provision for capital punishment in cases of mob lynching. The bill granting approval to simplify the establishment of GST appellate tribunals (GSTAT) has been endorsed by Sabha. This legislation modifies the criteria for appointing members, stipulating that individuals must be at least 50 years old to be eligible for membership or to serve as the president of the tribunal. On December 20, the Indian Telecommunications Bill 2023 was successfully ratified in the Lok Sabha, merely two days after it was introduced by Minister of Communications, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
